'This is not just a job for me this is my lifestyle and I love what I do! Having a gym that is dedicated to improving quality before quantity, focusing on improving performance and movement is my main goal. I am not in to "Functional Training", functional means you can sit down, stand up, walk the dog aka basic skills that the average person should be able to do on a daily basis. I teach/coach "optimal training" I ask you.. Can you use your body to it's full potential?
Could you be stronger? Faster?
Move/Train without pain?
Could you do more pull-ups?
Muscle-ups?
Jump higher?
Could you be leaner? Shredded?
Could you hit a PR on your lifts?
Do you have full ROM in all your joints?
Do you have pain/stiffness/numbness from poor movement patterns?
The list goes on and it all comes back to Movement/Nutrition/Recovery/Mobility and Stability, you improve those and your strength goes up, risk of injury goes down, then gains are made! If you would like help with Rehab/Mobility, Calisthenics/ Powerlifting (bench/squat/deadlifts) or FAT loss / MUSCLE gain contact me for more info adair.personaltrainer@gmail.com

Shawn has been helping me rehab my shoulder of chronic pain and has helped me considerably in a very short period of time. In fact, in the past 6 months I have been to see 2 physiotherapists, an ART specialist, an RMT, a Chinese doctor, an IMS practitioner and I even tried a bunch of exercises I found on YouTube but with very little improvement. However, after about a month of mobility and strengthening work with Shawn I was finally able to perform 4 sets of pushups with proper form pain free! It was my first time doing a pushup in about 2 years, so for me it was a major success. Honestly, I am extremely happy with all the progress I have made. And once my shoulder is 100% I plan on continuing with our training session to learn some calisthenics moves. I would recommend Shawn to anyone as he is a very personable, knowledgeable and dedicated trainer. Plus his gym is dope!

For the past 10 years or so I have struggled to be able to achieve personal fitness goals because of prior injuries. It's been a constant battle for me attempting to stay fit when I can so easily throw my back out. I'm the type of person who will push themselveseven when they shouldn't and consequently doing things on my own often resulted in a re injury or severe aggravation.Today I am happy to say that I am BEYOND thankful that a friend of mine met Shawn and started training with him at The Bar and convinced me to give him and his program a try. Not only is he an amazingly supportive coach, he's extremely knowledgeable and his techniques for helping with injuries have been far more effective, even in the short time of working with him, then any chiropractor or massage therapist that I have seen so far. It's a completely different approach that is already proving to work for me. (I will add that I have some pretty unique and undiagnosed injuries)
He's carefully watched and corrected my form on every movement we have gone over. Mobility and balance are key and I've had issues there as well, happy to report that I'm convinced this whole program is going to be life changing for me. n the short time we have been working together, not only do I feel like I'm getting stronger, my body as a whole is starting to feel better then it has in a long time. I still have a long ways to go but I am SO EXCITED for what the future holds and finally feel like I'm in the perfect place with the right person to help me conquer my roadblocks of injures and achieve my goals!
Thank you!!!! :)

"Words cannot express the amount of love and energy I feel every time I'm at this gym! So far each training session Shawn fixed my form for squats, started back off at 135 lbs but with his help and training I'll be back up too 225 easy!
Last session we covered dead lifts. I've been terrified of squatting and deadlifts specifically because of a previous injury that really threw me off. I've been down in the dumps about it lately but with his help and a few tweaks for my form I climbed up too 225 did a rep with solid form. Tried 250 and my form was a little off only because the weight was too heavy.
Over all I feel better then I have in months and I owe it all to this gym and everyone there! ❤ if your looking for a kick butt way to start lifting properly @thebarvancouver is the way to go"

The other great part is that form and technique are above all taught first!! I will say with out a doubt best gym ever!! You ll have gains and gains!!! And even more gains!!"

"I asked the owner Shawn to help me out on my compound lifts. He broke down the movement and tweaked my form on both squats and deadlifts so far I've managed to pr in both movements. Shawn focused on making sure you do the movement safely before you begin moving up weight which I really respected.
The actual gym itself has an amazing atmosphere everyone I've met there has helped inspire me to keep progressing. A few of my calisthenic idols work out there too and have shown me a lot of new ways to workout with my bodyweight. They teach a calisthenic class at 5 every Sunday and Shawn shows everyone proper form for bodyweight exercises.
Overall I would rate the gym
over9000/treefiddy but that's not an option so 5 stars it is. Keep up the good work Vancitybars."

"My name is Wayne Quong, I am (60 years old) and started “working out” in July 2011 after 25 years of physical inactivity. During those 25 years, it was obvious that my physical health was deteriorating each year. When I was 55 years old, I contracted a condition called “frozen shoulder”. The end result was that I had very limited mobility in both my shoulders (couldn’t raise my arms past horizontal) and my upper body strength deteriorated even more. I met Shawn Adair at my gym in January 2012 when he was working on his box jumps. I was simply amazed at his jumping ability and to this day I have never seen anyone like him. I remember asking him for training tips to increase my box jump and he told me with the right training I could get on the 42" box. At that time I told him it would be impossible for me but after a year of hard training I did it! As my training progressed and my shoulders improved, I had aspirations to join a senior’s track club (sprint events) and knew that working on plyometrics was a good way to increase speed and explosive power. I told Shawn my goal was to run senior track and he offered to help me. That’s how it began and I would have never dreamt what was to follow. I quickly learned from our training sessions that Shawn was not just going to improve my jumps, but my conventional weight lifting (squats, bench press and deadlifts, etc.), body weight exercises and mobility (shoulders and other joints) have seen dramatic improvement as well. In the time I have been with Shawn, I can honestly say that I have achieved all my goals. The great news is that I have replaced those goals with even more challenging ones. In additional to everything else, I have learned through Shawn that calisthenics is not just a way to get fit but is a sport too. It is so rewarding to be able to do something you never thought possible (i.e pistol squat, 42" box jump, 320lb squat, 347lb deadlift just to name a few), it feels great to have conquered something after working on it for weeks or even months. I can't wait to see what I can achieve as an athlete. I still have many goals in mind and I know Shawn will help me get there!"

Shawn is one of the best trainers and coaches out there. He is incredibly knowledgeable, attentive and encouraging. In the short 3 months since I’ve been working with him, I’ve greatly improved my lifts and gotten stronger than I ever thought I could. I highly recommend him!
